So I'm sitting here, finally with a few days worth of free time and I get thinking - how much time do you guys get to actually relax and do some art around your schoolwork/job??

Personally, I find it ridiculous how little time I get to sit down and indulge in my interests and hobbies. My school has a long weekend (4 days) every 4 weeks or so, and I'm finding that those are the only times I have enough time/are not too exhausted to do art. This realisation is one I find slightly depressing - I would never work any less hard at school, seeing as this could be my last year before uni and I need my education more than anything right now. But still, no practice means no improvement, and I'm noting people around me improving their artwork at a constant rate while I seem to have plateaued - hardly surprising, and yet there's nothing I can do about it!

So please leave comments describing your current situation of work vs. art! Or maybe your job IS art, in which case feel free to describe what it is like having your hobby and work rolled into one

My heart goes out to all those in Japan who have lost their homes, family, friends and possessions due to the tsunami caused by the earthquake. I hope that everyone there can pull together and recover from their tragedy <3 With a possible nuclear meltdown imminent on top of all this... I couldn't even imagine what they must be going through.

Also, in the midst of this please don't forget the people of Christchurch, NZ, who are still recovering from their earthquake. It brought down nearly the entire CBD, and there is some thought as to not rebuilding the city. Thousands are homeless, and hundreds dead. We have had some people from Christchurch transferred to my school, and they can barely talk about what had happened there... I'm so thankful that my family down there got away alive.

Ahh, the Ring of Fire... why must it cause so much devistation?

I've finally ordered a pyrography (poker) machine!! Seriously looking forward to having that for those who don't know, a pyrography machine is a machine that heats a nib up to red-hot temperatures so it can be used to burn wood as a form of artwork. There are some truly amazing works done in this style, and I'm raring to give it a go!

Just another week or so....

Finished my exams with results I am extremely proud of! It's holidays in a week, so I'll get on to my commissions then
